Switching to Eleventy

24th of September 2021

As foreshadowed I've moved the site's generator over to Eleventy. The biggest reason was that I struggled to get Jekyll up and running on my new Mac. I ran into Ruby compatibility issues and, while I probably could have got there with a bit more work, it felt like a real struggle. In the meantime, I'd been working my way through Andy Bell's outstanding Eleventy from scratch course which showed off the power and comparative simplicity of Eleventy. The more I worked/played with it, the more I enjoyed it.

At the moment the switch is pretty much a direct translation of the previous Jekyll version with a few nice tweaks and updates here and there. Eleventy gives me a fun foundation – and canvas – to play with. Better than that, though, I now have no excuse not to write more.

(And yes, I did struggle with the 'turning it up to Eleventy' pun.)
